Aussie mums have taken to Facebook to share their thoughts on school shoes as they prepare for the kids to head back to school – and there appears to be one brand that is taking out the title of best shoe.
Aldi reviews
Hundreds of ALDI shoppers have given the supermarket shoes positive reviews, with many saying they’ve found them better than even the more expensive brands.
“I [bought ALDI school shoes] last year and they lasted the longest and my son said they were the most comfortable ones and I was buying Colorado and Clarks shoes,” said one on the Aldi Mums Facebook page.
“I’ve always bought Clarks and Crosby but ALDI by far beats them all.”
“I found the $15 black leather girls school shoes better than the $120 ones I bought from Athlete’s Foot.”
“My son had them last year they lasted the entire year; my daughter had Colorado and they didn’t last the first term.”
“I’ve bought them from ALDI two years in a row, I get the $14.99 ones for boys and girls. I always buy two pairs each kid as they tend to always need a new pair but 4th term and they are great! I use to get Grosby and Clarks but these are just as good.”
Others praised the shoes for lasting the whole year.
“Quality is amazing and they lasted our very rough boy almost a year – which is a miracle,” said one.
“They last until my kids grow out of them. Always buy them when they’re out.”
“Our daughter prep last year had the $14 Mary Jane ones. Still in great condition and will buy her the same for this year.”
Kmart reviews
Some Kmart shoppers said their shoes were great value for money.
“My daughter had these shoes last year and they lasted her the entire year of kindergarten,” said one on the Kmart Hacks & Decor page.
Added another: “My daughter wore these for her first three years of school before wanting to get Nike sneakers. Never had any issues with them. She was always comfortable.”
Best to pay for quality
Other mums however were adamant that it is important to invest in a good quality pair of school shoes given the amount of time kids spend wearing them on their feet.
“Aldi and BigW etc shoes never lasted my kids more than one term. So I spend $120 or so on Clark’s shoes & they last the whole year,” said one.
Added another: “When it comes to shoes, I think it’s best to invest a little extra money and get the good ones.
“Simply because feet health is very important for posture. And also, end of the year, you’ll find yourself spending a lot more on the short term shoes.”
“I spend money on school shoes that are professionally fitted. They wear these four days a week. Our podiatrist says they should not bend in the middle.”
