How to get into the Christmas spirit while camping these holidays

At Reflections Holidays, we love an Aussie Christmas camping by the beach or spending uninterrupted time in nature. However you like to celebrate Christmas, there are numerous ways to elevate the period while holidaying.

Decorate your campsite

Embrace your natural surroundings by decorating a tree or your campsite with eco-friendly decorations. Opt for biodegradable or recycled materials like shells, flowers, and paper ornaments – this not only enhances the holiday atmosphere but also ensures your celebrations aren’t going to leave a mark on the environment.

Get to know your neighbours

Share the holiday spirit with your fellow campers by making festive treats like a homemade slice or head to the local bakery to pick up some goodies. You could also consider inviting them to join you in your festivities. A thoughtful gesture can go a long way in spreading cheer and fostering a sense of community.

Check what’s on in the local community

Reflections Holidays’ locations are often located near a local town, therefore, if you happen to be holidaying this Christmas make sure to see what’s on in the area you are staying. From local events, to community markets or fireworks, there’s bound to be festivities in the area.

Plan holiday activities for your Christmas camping

Integrate Christmas-themed activities into your holiday itinerary to keep everyone entertained. Organise a Christmas-themed scavenger hunt where participants search for seasonal items or clues. Alternatively, you could set up a Christmas competition with a range of activities that individuals or groups need to complete, with a special prize for the winner. These activities not only add fun to your holiday but help create lasting memories.

Create a festive menu

A special holiday feast is an integral part of many Christmas celebrations. When holidaying, consider dishes that are easy to store and cook – you can also utilise the camp kitchen at your campground to make meal preparation more convenient and keep your campsite tidy. Be sure to take advantage of the local pubs and restaurants in your area as well – while they likely won’t be open on Christmas, you can pay them a visit around the public holidays as a good alternative, to help take the pressure off.

If it is a simple sausage sizzle you are craving or a seafood feast on a hot day, be sure to tailor your menu to your environment to ensure your festive feast complements your surroundings.

Focus on spending quality time together

At its core, Christmas is about togetherness and creating cherished memories with loved ones. Regardless of your location, focus on the simple pleasures of spending quality time together. Share stories, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. Bring some board games, switch off your devices and embrace nature and all it has to offer – it brings out the best in everyone.

At Reflections Holidays we are firm believers that life is better outside. So, what better way to reconnect with loved ones than spending Christmas day down at the beach. Add in a game of cricket, sharing a laugh with your camping neighbours or walking off Christmas lunch with an afternoon stroll in a picturesque location. Perfect!
