Across the country Bakers Delight bakeries have started baking their signature Pink Buns to support Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and Australians affected by breast cancer.
Until 18 May, 100 per cent of the sales from every Fun Bun or Fun Bun 6-Pack sold will be donated to BCNA to help us continue to advocate and provide information and support for everyone affected by the disease.
Fun Bun Friends Alvie, Flossy and Queenie are an exciting addition to this year’s campaign representing our key values connection, voice and information. Proceeds from these plush collectable toys will also be donated to BCNA.
More than 20,000 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The emotional toll has been heightened since the pandemic began with most of the 40,000 people diagnosed in that time receiving their treatment and follow up care in lockdown and isolated environments.
BCNA CEO Kirsten Pilatti says BCNA’s resources have allowed everyone to seek support.
“Our Helpline has taken over 20,000 calls since March 2020 and we have successfully been able to deliver our information forums in a digital format with over 11,000 views. We are very excited that next month our Living Well information forums will make the long-awaited return to face-to-face with our first event in Ballarat to welcome regional and rural Australians down to seek support in person.”
A breast cancer experience is different for everyone which is highlighted by our Pink Bun ambassadors. Megan, Samantha and Nicholas share the challenges they faced during diagnosis and treatment and why BCNA’s information and support is so important.
Profoundly Deaf and legally blind, Megan was able to access BCNA’s information in a format that helped her communicate with her treating team. Living with metastatic breast cancer, Samantha thanks BCNA for advocating on her behalf so she could access medication that is providing her a better quality of life. As a man diagnosed with breast cancer, Nicholas shares how being connected with other men going through a similar experience made him feel less alone.
Kirsten Pilatti thanks Bakers Delight for their support over the past 22 years.
“The generosity of Bakers Delight year after year is simply overwhelming. Without the support of the franchisees and their communities, BCNA would not be here to provide the tailored information and support Australians need as they navigate their breast cancer treatment and care.”
Bakers Delight joint CEO Elise Gillespie says every year she looks forward to hearing the inspiring stories that come out of the campaign.
“Our campaign theme this year really focusses on helping BCNA to be the voice for all Australians affected by breast cancer, so we welcome our customers to not only buy Pink Buns, but to share their own personal stories and connection with breast cancer. It really reinforces why we do this campaign and what it means to our local communities affected by breast cancer.”
Over the 22-year partnership, Bakers Delight has raised an incredible $22 million dollars for BCNA.
