On a journey to change the way our future generations think about plastic waste, illustrator, graphic designer, and mother of four, Lauren Briggs has written a new fictional children’s book, Little Pago.
‘Little Pago’ was first designed in 1997 in Lauren’s university animation class, after she learnt about the plight of marine animals in the Galapagos Islands. The character remained a drawing in a book until Lauren and her family of six, travelled to a remote turtle conservation in Borneo to learn about their Green Turtle hatchling program.
Turtles have always been close to author and illustrator Lauren Briggs’ heart, and so inspired from her trip, Lauren wrote Little Pago which follows a baby loggerhead turtle on his hunt for food in Australia’s own, Great Barrier Reef.
Published by Boolarong Press, the book educates children on the importance of protecting our marine life by eliminating the use of plastic in our lives and inspires a movement for change as he represents all marine animals.
Boolarong Press is donating a percentage from the sale of each book to conservation fighters, Take 3 for the Sea, who is building a global movement of people to be the plastic pollution solution.
About Little Pago
Little Pago is an energetic and playful baby loggerhead turtle living in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
Against a magical background of coral Jowers and seaweed gardens, Little Pago and his friends set out on an adventurous journey in search for food. However, not everything floating in the ocean is safe for a baby turtle to eat. A balloon, straw and plastic bag are easily mistaken for some of Little Pago’s favourite food.
Little Pago is a mascot for the welfare of all Australian sea turtles and shines a light on one of the critical threats that face sea turtles, plastic waste in our ocean. It encourages readers to challenge the way we live, so that collectively we can work towards preventing these majestic sea creatures becoming extinct.
We all know that education is the precursor to change. Together, let’s turn the tide on Australian sea turtle extinction and plastic pollution by providing children with a meaningful and valuable narrative to live a life with purpose!
Available in all good bookstores now, Little Pago inspires children (aged 2 – 5 years old) to eliminate plastic waste in the classroom, at-home and in the community. This imaginative children’s book is set to be a vehicle for change among our future generation.
